Kevin Rinaldi Abednego (21130219) Derivational and Inflectional Words in A Dark Brown Dog Short Story by Stephen Crane
The purposes of this works are to find the total number of deriational and inflectional words, lexical categories of each derivational word and the grammatical aspect of each inflectional word in short story. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The data are taken from A Dark Brown Dog short story by Stephen Crane. The writer uses Lexical Category theory from Mark Aronoff, J.Albert Bickford and Grammatical Aspect from George Yule. The results of the analysis are; (1)there are 96 derivational words and 265 inflectional words; (2)there are three lexical categories of derivational words which are Noun, Adjective and Adverb that can be found in the short story; (3)there are six grammatical aspects of inflectional words which are Past, Present Participle, Past Participle, Plural, Possessive and Third Person Singular Present. With derivational and inflectional words, the story or messages that are shown become vary and easy to understand.
