Septiana Safitri Waruwu (21130211), Schizophrenia of Main Character in A Beautiful Mind Movie Through Psychoanalysis Perspective.
The aims of this research is to find out and give clear data about characterization and schizophrenia that suffered by main character in A Beautiful Mind movie. This movie is chosen to be analyzed based on Psychoanalysis perspective. The supported theories and materials were collected through library and internet resource, in analyzing this movie the writer uses descriptive qualitative methods. This study collected data from the movie itself and uses several experts’ theories. As the source to analyze the problem the writer uses Feldman’s theories to analyze the type of schizophrenia, Mercer island schools’ theories to analyze the characterization and Mischel, Shoda and Smith’s Theories to analyze psychological perspective. After the data were collected, the results are; first, the characterizations of the main character are introvert, ungainly, and diffidence. Second, the main character is suffered from schizophrenia, and the type of schizophrenia that suffered by the main character is paranoid schizophrenia. And the third, psychoanalysis perspective including, Id, Ego and Superego. The symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia are delusion, hallucination, erratic or unpredictable behavior, emotional disturbances, and social withdrawal. Third, schizophrenia has some effects to main character’s life, such as mind destruct, lack of emotion, and cannot react to his wife sexually.
